Friendtique is a 501-C3 Non-Profit Organization that was started in 2005 to financially support Hospice and Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County. This Hospice store is not owned by or managed by Hospice. It is independent of Hospice. It has the full support of Hospice but is not directed by them.
The original store was located downtown in the old Molly Miller building. That storefront was totally renovated for use by volunteers that believed it be could successful and although it was a very small storefront it was the perfect building to kick off this ever changing and prosperous business. The concept was started by a handful of Woosterites who wanted to help the community and at the same time provide a great workplace for volunteers that had a special place in their heart for Hospice.
In the current Friendtique building there are four full-time employees, one part-time employee and forty or so volunteers.
Friendtique is governed and overseen by a volunteer board of directors.
Friendtique is a thrift store that thrives solely on donations. The annual sales from these donations has raised enough to date to give Hospice over one million dollars, purchase a building and renovate it, costing approximately another half million dollars.
Friendtique is heavily vested in the community through the investment in Hospice and the investment in our assets.
Many local businesses are important to the success of our mission. Buehler’s donated our cargo van for small pick up. Ray Crow takes care of all our dry cleaning needs. Jerry Baker was a huge help to us while purchasing our building. He took a like kind 150,000.00 tax donation and that helped us in keeping our mortgage payment to an affordable note.
We have opened our second location in the former Wooster Book Company store at 205/213 West Liberty Street! This is an exciting next step to facilitate donating even more to Lifecare Hospice! Being situated in the downtown area makes it a great place to shop for those live in the area and walk and has enough great inventory to please those in the lower income bracket as well as those who are discriminate higher income shoppers. Our shoppers and donors come from all walks of life. Much time and energy is spent making our store pleasing to the eye and a convenient place to shop. We feature a first floor showroom with furniture, household items, a small bookstore, vintage items and artwork. Almost anything you would find in your home can be found at Friendtique. Items that we do not take are large appliances, exercise equipment, pianos and organs. The lower level houses a ladies boutique that is second to none in Wooster. We also have limited men’s and children’s items.
As our store sign says “There is Something for Everyone at Friendtique”. And there truly is.
